Encouraging our little outdoor explorers

At our stay and play, you and your little ones can have fun playing with mud kitchens, water walls, musical stations and much more. We can’t guarantee you’ll go home clean or dry but we can guarantee that there’ll be activities to pique your child’s curiosity and encourage them to explore new sights, sounds and textures.

We set the environment up to encourage child-led play – it’s amazing to see what keeps their little minds occupied. We use natural and recycled resources as far as possible, and everyday items rather than ‘toys’ as such – the children’s imagination does the rest!

We are a stay and play so a parent or guardian must be present please – teas and coffees (and a sheltered area!) are available (subject to Covid-19 restrictions).

Stimulating the senses

There are huge benefits to children playing outside – physically, emotionally, socially and even intellectually! Children are more likely to develop their motor skills where they have space to run, jump, swing and throw… the knock-on impact is that all that physical activities leads to them being stronger, fitter and less likely to become overweight. Instil a love of the outdoors in your child in the early years and their health will thank you for it later down the line.

The changing seasons makes it an incredibly stimulating experience for them and encourages them to use all of their senses. Our stay and play sessions are a great opportunity for social interaction for children and, just as importantly, their parents and carers. We aim to foster a feeling of community at our sessions and hope that children and their parents and carers alike can make friends that they can continue exploring, creating and playing with!

Encouraging our baby explorers

Why should toddlers have all the fun?! We’ve adapted our sessions to make them stimulating and engaging for babies from birth to c. 12 months. We’ll have plenty of musical stations, as well as set ups that encourage the development of sensory and fine motor skills. Messy play also features so no best outfits please and we’d strongly recommend a change of clothing, an old towel and / or a puddlesuit. There will also be a quiet reading corner and we’ll even offer you a (free) cup of tea!

The sensory stimulation our sessions offer is really important for children’s development - it helps create new pathways in the brain and starts to lay those important foundations for their learning later on. Most importantly, they are a great bonding opportunity for you and your little one and a chance for you to meet other local parents. One of the things that inspired Wild Imaginations was a desire to create a supportive community for Mums. Dads, Grandparents and other carers are also always welcome but it still tends to be Mums we see the most so we start each session with some short introductions to break the ice.

We’ll be outside as much as possible but have indoor space available if it’s very cold, wet or we’re unable to provide enough shade. We offer both block bookings and one off single sessions so come and try it and see what you think!
